Hello all, new member here. Test rode an EPS model 900s then got cheap. Also figured the white lightning model would be well suited for 40%trails 40% backroads and would suffice for the little bit of adrenaline itch every once in a while.
Well within 5 minutes of hayfield and pasture strafing, I was wrong. The amount of body roll and bottoming was excessive and the lack of stability disconcerting. Not being a suspension neophyte I decided to crunch some numbers my self and determined that a QA1 progressive 175-350# 12" spring would fit the bill. And frankly I NAILED IT.
The progressive type spring with about .25- .375 preload gave approx a 1.5 static lift. And it doesn't even drive like the same machine. The progressive rate helps make up for the lack of front sway bar and soaks up small high speed bumps like it was designed just for the 900s, now it is slightly more abrupt on slow speed trail crawling but it takes one hell of a hit to bottom it. I plan on adding the 175 tender from the rear on top of the front to get just a bit of initial plush. I have a 250#/450# dual rate setup using Summit Racing springs The 450 was on sale for $20 to put on rear with shock therapy crossover rings.
Sorry for the long read but I can't be the only person looking for a budget fix this issue. Also Summit sells koni Nylon 2.25-2.5 spring adapters for a couple bucks. The shock therapy billet ones are nice but a bit rich for my blood. More results and pics to follow.
